Fathomless is a 2D roguelike that takes place in a post-apocalyptic underwater world where humanity fights for survival after a world-ending flood destroyed it. The player controls a human scrapper who has to regularly exit the safety of their ark to combat mythical and mutated horrors alike to bring back resources necessary to keep it running.
Responsibilities and Contributions
I served as the team’s Producer and Narrative Designer, with this being one of my first leadership positions. I implemented agile and scrum methodologies by using Jira and other documentation methods, hosting progress presentations with my team. I helped write the foundations for the game’s story and helped give direction to other disciplines so that they could combine their own creative interpretation with the intended vision.
Key Takeaways
Though development of the game was discontinued due to multiple teammates becoming unavailable because of life circumstances, working on this game was incredibly valuable in instructing how to handle future teams and a lack of smooth participation. While Jira itself was easy to implement and teach people to use, regular engagement was a struggle at first. After getting to know everyone better and encouraging communication, I was able to increase team engagement with Jira and other important documentation, facilitating a more refined and efficient pipeline.
